There is so much to think about when planning your wedding that sometimes little things like getting ready for your Bridal Hair and Make-up Trial aren’t at the top of your list, so I thought I would put together a little guide to help make sure you are all prepared and that you get the best out of your time with your chosen Artist (and hopefully that is me!)
Firstly, you MUST have chosen your dress before you even start looking at Hair and Make-up ideas as you need to know what kind of styles you like and where you are going with you final look.
It is also essential to have any headpieces and veils with you on your trial as it is important we try them with your ideas as they may or may not look how you thought and this way we can make sure your accessories suit your hair and your hair suits your dress. Talking about Hair, it is also really important to have any hair pieces or extensions with you for your trial as we need to make sure they match the color of your hair and fit your desired style. It is also a good opportunity for you to wear them and make sure they are comfortable, especially if you have never worn them before! Practice makes perfect!
It is…. honest. It is all about your skin. Preparing for your Bridal Make-up Trial is all about your preparing your canvas. It is a really good idea to look after your skin on a day to day basis but if you don’t, leading up to your wedding is the perfect time to start. In order for the make-up to sit perfectly you have to have well hydrated skin, this means moisterising day and night, making sure you exfoliate once a week and drinking lots of water. Basically, be kind to yourself and your skin as make-up can make you look radiant but it is better to feel radiant and let that do it for you!
Top Tip – Use fresh face masks, you can get an array from Lush, my favorite being Mask of Magnaminty (see below)
“Easily smoothed over the skin, this mask is made with peppermint oil to stimulate, marigold oil and chlorophyllin to treat the skin; evening primrose seeds and aduki beans to gently exfoliate as you wash it away. There’s mineral rich kaolin to nourish, honey for its antibacterial properties, and we used just the right amount of peppermint oil to stimulate blood cells under the surface of your skin and leave your skin looking bright and refreshed.
This marvellous mixture also comes in self preserving form too, which means it keeps itself clean without the help of synthetic preservatives. Choosing between them is simply a matter of preference. The original formula dries more thoroughly when applied, while the self preserved version has a higher honey content so is thicker and remains wet. The differences aren’t monumintal, just choose the texture you prefer.”
This is the MOST important part! You have to do your research, you need to look for Hair and Make-up photos in order to get an idea of what you like and what you don’t like. It is important to look at photos of REAL women, this means real weddings, red carpets and photographers websites and such like, as these are the photos that haven’t been digitally enhanced, airbrushed or edited. This is essential as you want to be able to strive for a look that is achievable, because it is real and not want to achieve a look that has been enhanced and isn’t realistic.
Looking for photos can be quite tricky. Pinterest is fantastic when it comes to Hairstyles as there are so many different styles to suit everyone’s individual personalities. Just keep in mind your own hair when looking at styles and make sure you are keeping in mind hair length and hair type, remember if your not sure just contact your artist, I am sure they wouldn’t mind sparing a bit of advice!
For make-up it is best to avoid sites like this as the images are often airbrushed or enhanced, they are a little bit too “instagramy” – which reminds me, that is also not a good place to look for ideas as these make-ups look absolutely amazing on camera and online however in person it is a whole new kettle of fish. When the word “flawless” is said to me I often think of insta and the 7 layers of foundation that has been beat on the face with a sponge and this is something you do not want for your wedding day as your guests would certainly not recognise you on the day! We want to create a beautiful, glowy, even skintone which radiates without covering up who you are.
So you’ve got lots of photos you love….it is now time to get some photos together that you really dislike. It is really helpful to have these with you at your trial because it is sometimes easier to know where you do not want to go, if your not sure what you want!
…Wear WHITE. Or any top that is similar cut and color to your wedding dress, this will give you a better impression of how everything will look together. The final look does not look the same if you are wearing purple and your dress is white, trust me! Against white the make-up will look darker and heavier, against a dark color it wont, so you may think you want more make-up on your eyes or lips however once you step into that beautiful gown of yours everything will be relative.
Jewelry, just like your hair accessories, if you have this already you might as well pop it all on to see how everything fits.
I ask my Brides to have their hair clean and dry for the trial day, and a lovely clean fresh face. This is because I would like the hair in the state that it will be on the Wedding morning and who doesn’t want to feel fresh on their Wedding morning! The reason I ask for the hair to be dry is, if it is wet it will eat into our styling time and this way we will get more time to try out different styles and you get more time with you artist.
Last but by no means least, arrange to do something the night of your trial date! It is so important to wear your make-up and take it for a test drive, make sure that it can handle your crazy dancing or your headbanging, whatever your favorite dance style might be! Organise dinner with the loved one or maybe a girls night out, whatever it is make sure you show it off!
I hope this has been super helpful for all you wonderful Brides to be and now hopefully you feel as though you haven’t got THAT much stuff to think about when it comes to your Bridal Trial as you can always refer back to this blog to make sure you have ticked everything off.
It’s simple really, have a table, a little bit of space and a nice black coffee waiting for me and I will be a very happy bunny.
See you soon!
